Toby and I have a 7 hour road trip tomorrow in the newly-repaired Sunchaser.

Kinja'd!!!

Ferndale is one of my favorite places in California - most people have never been there because it is so remote. I am doing a seminar and legal clinic for dairies up there.

Kinja'd!!!

I need to plan a route, but I may be stopping to see a farmer in Petaluma on the way, which could restrict my options. There is really no bad way to go. I am staying at what appears to be a really cool place.

Today was a meat grinder. I could use a day on the road. Dairy farmers are my people. I stand up for them and they show me a lot of love for it.

That is a beautiful downtown area. I really need to plan a western adventure at some point.

Happy and safe travels for you and Toby tomorrow.

I love that area south of Eureka. And the area north of it. Honestly, I love all of it, but there’s absolutely nothing for someone like me to do there, therefore I must live in wretched cities. I consider the valley to the south perhaps the single most beautiful place in the contiguous United States (and that’s no small feat), it’s absolutely unreal.

The only bad thing up there is that some of 101 was/is really rough between there and the Santa Rosa area (which is also one of my favorite metro areas in the country).

My only recommendation is to take highway 1 at Leggett and go up through Guerneville back to 101. There isn’t a bad route, but that’s a nice piece of coast and the road/canyon through Guerneville is really awesome.

The PNW actually starts in the last contiguous home of the banana slug, therefore the southernmost point is somewhere around Santa Cruz. It’s baja PNW, it doesn’t include Sacto, so you just follow the coast mountains until you enter the official Cascadia Bioregion.

Drive the lost coast if you get a chance. The road sucks ass but the views are amazing. Make sure you have a full tank, I think it’s >100 miles with no fuel.
